BayBIFX & BACE Event on AI in Healthcare & Genetics – February 2024

AI, generative AI, and Machine Learning, are becoming more commonly used across healthcare and biotech, from literature mining applications, through advisory chatbots, to drug discovery, and (multi)omics. During this collaborative event, co-organized by Bay Area Bioinformatics and BACE, we explored the avenues that these groundbreaking technologies open.

We convened in the beautiful Myriad Genetics space to hear a set of presentations from our speakers that night:

Lana Feng, Co-Founder and CEO, Huma.AI – “Hype or Reality: Generative AI Use Cases in Life Sciences”
Avantika Lal, Principal AI Scientist, Genentech – “Generating DNA with Large Language Models”
Jing Huang, SVP, BioInformatics & Data Science, Veracyte – “Using Genomic Features to Make Smart Clinical Decisions: The Power of Machine Learning with RNA-Seq”
Alex Pankov, Associate Director, Head of BioInformatics, ORIC Pharmaceuticals – “Exploiting Chemical Properties to Ensure Diversity in Chemical Screens”
Rohit Shinde, Data Scientist III, Myriad Genetics – “Myriad Collaborative Research Registry”

The event raised a lot of interest and gathered together a savvy and inquisitive audience, leading to a great discussion throughout the event.
