BACE New Technology Showcase: Cardea Bio – August 2022

In the August 2022 BACE event we followed the lead of Cardea Bio and crossed the boundaries between biology and electronics. Cardea Bio is the the first company integrating biologics with graphene semiconductors to create BPUs™ – Biosignal Processing Units. We learnt about the potential applications of BPUs, and hear from CRISPR QC – a company using BPU-based CRISPR-Chip to help optimize CRIPSR editing for gene therapy, cell therapy and other applications.

We first heard from Francie Barron, PhD, VP Innovation Partnership at Cardea Bio, and previously its VP of R&D. Her talk “From CPUs to BPUs: Next-Generation Transistors for Amplification-Free Genotyping” introduced us to the world of BPUs and their intricacies.

Dr. Barron’s talk was followed by Ken Dickerson, CRISPR Group Leader from CRISPR QC, who dived into the molecular world of CRISPR-Chips and described how they can aid CRISPR genome engineers in their designs and optimization.
